Do you sell the traditional raclette grills when a half wheel of cheese is skewered to a stand?
Posting date: 8th February 2011 13:13
Traditionally, Swiss cow herders used to take a wheel or half wheel of raclette cheese with them when they were moving cows to or from the pastures up in the mountains. In the evenings around the campfire, they would place the cheese next to the fire and, when it had reached the perfect softness on the front section, scrape it on top of some bread. Nowadays you find in Alpine hotels and restaurants, for example, metal stands that hold a cheese before the source of heat, and then you scrape some cheese onto your dining plate. There is an image of one on this link:
Traditional raclette grill stand
The modern way of serving raclette involves an electric table-top raclette grill with small pans, known as coupelles, to heat slices of raclette cheese in.The grill is surmounted by a hot plate or griddle. This is exactly what the Kuchenprofi Raclette Grills that we sell are.
Unfortunately we do not yet have a supplier of the traditional Raclette Grills that hold the half wheels of cheese from which you can scrape the melted cheese onto your plate. I am looking for a supplier myself of a quality version and will let you know if I find one!
